A Very Special Invitation

Semper Fido & K9 Basics are proud to announce the upcoming graduation of our 2 newest veteran/service dog teams for Semper Fido, Inc., bringing this mission to 12 total service teams!!

This process has taken six months and the veterans involved have bonded and been very active with their dogs. They are ready to go out into the world as a team!

The Graduation Ceremony will be held on Friday, April 17th at 7pm at K9 Basics Dog Training, inside the Phoenix and Apache Training Center. If you would be interested in attending the brief but very important ceremony, please call the K9 Basics office at 866-592-2742 no later than 5pm April 15!

Thanks to the American Legion!

They did it again! One of our biggest & long time supporters, the members of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 371, presented us with a check representing the funds they raised at their 3rd Annual Golf Tournament this past September! Their first tournament in 2012 hosted just over 70 golfers and raised over $5000! At this last tournament, they were supported by over 90 golfers and raised over $6700!

Sons of the American Legion, George Walton Post 371 member, Mark Stang presents Lisa Ann Berg, Semper Fido, Inc founder & president, with a check for the monies raised at their 3rd Annual Golf Tournament in September 2014! Mark was responsible for bringing Semper Fido's mission to the attention of his fellow members in late 2011. They, along with their fellow members of the American Legion Riders, Jersey Devil Chapter, have been staunch supporters year round, not only with their annual golf tournament!

Thank You and God Bless You All!

A Sincere Thank You to Valenzano's Winery!

We had a great time at Valenzano's Winery this weekend as part of their 13th annual Wine Festival. We raised a lot of money for Semper Fido. The Valenzano brothers donated $5,000 to Semper Fido!

Thanks so much to Mark and Anthony for their hospitality and generosity. This will immediately be put to use to start another service team for a wounded warrior!

TC Irons Cares Fundraiser a GREAT Success!

We want to thank Tim Irons an his staff at TC Irons Insurance for putting together such a marvelous fundraiser! Through their efforts, they raised over $18,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The outpouring of support was awesome.

On behalf of all of us at Semper Fido and the combat veterans this will help.

Many Thanks!

A profound thank you to the Sons of American Legion Post 371 for their hard work at their recent golf outing.

The Sons of American Legion Post 371 donated the $6000 proceeds to Semper Fido. They have raised thousands of dollars for this cause that is so important to service veterans suffering from PTSD and/or TBI. This is the 2nd year in a row that they have supported us via their golf outing.

Your support is so important and very much appreciated.

A Special Thank You for our Semper Fido Walk

First and foremost, we would like to thank Kaitlyn Hudson for putting together our First Annual Semper Fido Walk. You are an amazing person and we cannot thank you enough. You did an awesome job!

Also, thank you Ritch and Tracie for waking up before the crack of dawn to help us transport and set up. We can always count on you guys.

A special thank you to everyone who came out and showed their support by walking with us for Semper Fido.

To our always faithful K9 Basics clients/friends, thank you for your unwavering support in everything we do. We are lucky to have you and grateful for all your support.

SEMPER FIDO, INC. - Helping Solidiers One Dog at a Time

dog and warriorSemper Fido is a non-profit organization committed to the rehabilitation of service members and veterans that have been injured while defending our country and have been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and/or traumatic brain injuries (TBI). It has been proven that using dogs for mental, as well as physical rehabilitation, can greatly benefit these warriors recovery. Dogs will be obtained from a number of sources including, but not limited to breeders, rescue groups and shelters.

Semper Fido, Inc. is committed to helping in the rehabilitation of these brave warriors while saving unwanted animals from shelters and rescues. Our service dogs are obtained from a number of sources including, but not limited to, rescue groups and shelters. Our organization benefits both parties involved; those who sacrificed themselves for our freedoms, and the dogs that may have had no hope of a forever home.

Each service dog is trained over the course of a 6-9 month program. During these 6-9 months, the service members bonds with the dogs by feeding, walking, playing with and grooming them. The service member is taught to use the commands the dog has learned from professional dog trainers. Upon completion of the program, the team graduates and receives certification as a service dog team. The dog then goes home with the service member.

Veterans often suffering alone, seem to silence themselves because of the stigma still attached to psychological injuries like PTSD. The dog can calm them down and get their minds off of everything going on in their lives by focusing on the dog not themselves.

For warriors with PTSD, it has been documented that a dog helps with emotional regulation. Patients who are very anxious and have anger issues find they can’t work with a dog if they yell. They must have a calm voice. Working with a dog helps build confidence and bridge the gap with strangers. More often than not the response and the bond is immediate.

A veteran with PTSD has sleep disorders and often awakens to find him/herself soaked in sweat from the nightmare of war. With his/her Working Support Dog they are able to sleep. Simply having a dog around allows the warriors to trust the dog to assess the safety of their surroundings, as the dogs have a much keener sensory capacity than people.
